THERE was joy and excitement at St Nicholas Catholic Sixth Form today as students received their A-level results.
Results day can be a nerve-wracking experience for students, but the 2024 cohort at the Hartford college needn't have worried.
On opening their envelopes this morning, it was clear the hard work year 13 put over the last two years had paid off.
Tom Bradley, the head of sixth form at St Nicholas, was impressed with all the dedication each student had this year.
He said: "I’m really proud of all our students, and all the efforts and perseverance the students have put in which has come to fruition.
"We are really pleased a vast majority of students have been successful in getting to their next steps."
“We’re confident that all our students have gained valuable skills and knowledge from their time at St Nicholas, which will support them over the next 10, 20, even 30 years."
St Nicholas head teacher Craig Burns added his congratulations and is looking ahead to the college's future.
He said: "I’m really proud of the achievements of all students who’ve been through our sixth form and also the contribution they have made to the school over time.
"They’re all excellent role models for everyone in the school.
"A big thanks to the staff and families of students who have worked tirelessly overtime to help turn these students into confident young adults.
"I’m very excited about the future of the sixth form and looking forward to opening a new gym which will be available for free to every new student.
"There will be an enhanced enrichment for students at the sixth form, it’s a very exciting time to be a student."
One student thrilled with her results was head girl Poppy Johnson, who felt ‘a big relief’ and was ‘so happy’ when she opened her results.
Poppy achieved an A* in geography alongside two As in maths and art. She will be taking an architecture degree at the University of Edinburgh.
Another star pupil, Finlay Pilling, said he was ‘feeling amazing’ about his results after receiving three A*s in maths, further maths and computer science, as well as a bonus A in physics.
He is now ‘very much excited’ to continue his studies in maths at Durham University.
Joyous friends also celebrated their results together, like Abigail Mayers and Esha Solanki who were ‘ecstatic’ with their results.
Abigail achieved three Bs in English literature, psychology, and religious education. She is now ‘extremely excited' to head to the University of Manchester to study English.
Esha was elated after doing ‘better than expected’ and gained a place at her first choice university, Nottingham Trent, to study psychology and criminology.
Olivia Black, who celebrated with co-head girl Poppy, was 'feeling good' about her results, which secured her a place at Durham.
