A COLLEGE has enjoyed record-breaking A-level results.
Students at Sir John Deane’s are in celebration mode after seeing 80 per cent of all their grades marked A* to B.
The figure far surpasses the national average and betters the school’s performance last year, which was itself a record.
The number of A* to A grades also hit an all-time high, making up 50 per cent of all entries with the top grade alone accounting for 19 per cent.
Meanwhile, 96 per cent of BTECs were awarded a Distinction or Distinction* with every pupil achieving a Merit or higher.
Principal Christopher Atherton said: “These incredible results are a testament to the exceptional effort our students have put in, surpassing even last year’s extraordinary exam success.
“The dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence of staff and students has continued our remarkable journey of record-breaking results. This is a moment of great celebration for our entire college community.”
Matthew Snelson, CEO of The Sir John Brunner Foundation, added: “Congratulations to everyone at Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College. Well done to the students for their remarkable results and also the collective effort of my colleagues and the students’ families who have contributed to this success.
“Results of this calibre are not normal, but they are normal here. Year after year, students who attend Sir John Deane’s leave with fantastic grades, enabling them to have many doors open to them exceptional experiences, which have shaped their character, and memories to look back on and smile.”
In total, 52 students achieved straight A*s in three or more subjects with 255 students achieving a mix of As and A*s.
One of those students, Chili Cheung, who previously attended The County High School Leftwich, achieved straight A*s in Economics, Maths and Media Studies to secure her place at Oxford to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics.
Meanwhile, Max Mackay will be going on to study Philosophy, History and Economics at Exeter, having achieved straight A*s in Maths, Physics and Further Maths.
"I have loved everything about it [studying at Sir John Deane’s] - the people, the teachers, the place itself."
Mr Atherton added: "Max is a great example of the success we have had at Sir John Deane's.
"He has worked very hard. He is the life and soul of the college and I am so proud of him.
"Today has been one of the most joyous results days I can remember."
