WELCOME to Behind the Lens, a feature that shines a light on the talented photographers in our Guardian Camera Club group.
This week, Gary Moore shares some of his favourite photographs.
Gary, who is 57 and has lived in Winsford all his life, took up photography during the Covid-19 pandemic when he was forced to isolate.

When and why did you take up photography?
It was March 2020 and I had to shield during the Covid-19 lockdowns, as I was extremely vulnerable. My immune system is not great due to medication for psoriatic arthritis. I started to take a cheap Sony DSLR camera with me on walks.
What do you love about taking pictures?
I love being outside capturing a moment in time. I love the whole process of taking and editing pictures - it’s great for your mental health. It’s very rewarding to say I have taken that picture.

Where is your favourite place to take pictures and why?
Anywhere outdoors that stimulates the mind. My favourite place is following the river Weaver. There are so many things going on around you and it makes you feel alive when you can capture a moment in time.
What is your favourite subject matter and why?
Sport and nature. I love photographing football. It’s a challenge trying to get players and a ball moving at such speed. I’ve taken pictures for Winsford United, Winsford Town and Northwich Vics.

What do you enjoy about being part of our Camera Club on Facebook?
I like to see people’s different views of what beautiful things we have around were we live. Their passion shines through in the photos.
If you could photograph anyone/any place/anything, who/what would it be?
I’d love to photograph planet earth from the moon. This would be the ultimate photograph.
