ROLL UP! Roll up! The circus is in town.

Zippos Circus is back in Winsford with an international cast of performers guaranteed to thrill the whole family.

This year’s show, Magnificent!, will be a celebration of the circus’ founder Martin Burton, who has been entreating crowds for 50 years.

"I am thrilled that we are presenting Magnificent! in my 50th year in the circus industry,” he said.

“It seems only yesterday since my humble beginnings as Zippo the Clown busking to audiences on Brighton Beach.

“I am extremely proud to have reached this milestone and for Zippos Circus to become the UK's favourite family circus boasting a sensational cast of international artists and a talented team working behind the scenes.

“I am convinced we have many exciting decades to come under the directorship of Beau Denning as I take more of a back seat.

“Most of all I would like to thank the public who have helped us get to where we are and have supported us through the years. The show will go on!"

Zippos Circus will put on eight shows between Thursday (August 15) and Sunday (August 18).

Acrobat and comedy start Paulo Dos Santos, who stands at 3ft 6in tall, will host the festivities.

Joining him will be a host of international circus stars, including Brazil’s Alex Michael, an award-winning flying trapeze artist, and the Globe of Death motorcycle show.

Making her first appearance with the company is clown La Loka, from Ukraine.

There is also the return of the Mongolian Warriors, who will be presenting a new springboard act which will see the troupe hurtled high up into the air.

CWAC councillor Gina Lewis, representing Over and Verdin, is delighted to welcome Zippos back to Winsford.

She said: “Having Zippo’s Circus in Winsford is a real privilege.

“They have been very generous in giving a number of free tickets and hopefully the families who will receive them will have a great experience of a really great circus.

“The circus organisers were very keen to ensure that the immediate neighbours of Knights Grange were informed and letters were delivered to household adjacent to the field advising them of the circus performances.

“I have to thank the officers at Cheshire West who have helped facilitate this visit. As you can imagine a great deal of work goes into any event.

“Since Covid we have not had the kind of events which Winsford used to have, and when this visit was first being planned I hoped it would kickstart the kind of programme I know a lot of people in Winsford have known in the past.

“I hope people will enjoy the circus and who knows, this could become an annual event for the town.”
