Eight top pizza places made the shortlist for the latest Best of 2024 award and The Outback Pizza Company has taken this year’s coveted crown.

Pete Dennett opened the mobile wood fired pizza business based in Acton Bridge in 2018.

He travels all over Cheshire and surrounding areas serving authentic wood fired pizzas from the back of a Land Rover Defender.

Pete has always lived in the Northwich area, growing up in Barnton and living in Acton Bridge for the past 10 years with his wife and two young children.

Pete, who is 42, said: “Based in Cheshire, we are a mobile pizza company with a twist!

“We create fresh, woodfired pizza in our converted Land Rover Defender.

“Our mission is to supply authentic, hand stretched pizza using the highest quality ingredients.”

Prior to starting his own business, Pete was a primary school teacher.

He loved the job but wanted to have more flexibility with his young family so in 2018, he decided to leave full time teaching to start his own business.

He does continue to teach a few days a week alongside running the business.

Pete said: “I love Italian food, particularly pizzas, and Land Rovers, so wood fired pizzas from a converted Land Rover Defender combines two of my passions!

“Our pizza is made using the finest Italian ingredients.

“Any good pizza starts with its dough and ours is made using the Caputo wheat flour milled in Naples.

“Caputo flour is recognised throughout the world as the gold standard of flour for making pizza dough.

“Our dough is topped with DOP San Marzano tomatoes grown in the volcanic plains of Mount Vesuvius, to give that authentic, classic Neapolitan style pizza taste.

“It is then topped with imported Italian fior di latte mozzarella and finished off with toppings of your choice.

“Our oven has been specially designed and commissioned to fit in the rear of a Land Rover Defender.

“This unique design enables us to provide pizzas almost anywhere and on any terrain.

“Our oven is fired using locally sourced, seasoned hard wood enabling temperatures to reach up to 500 degrees and produce a mouth-watering pizza in just 90 seconds.”

Pete said: “Our mission is to supply authentic, hand stretched pizza using the highest quality ingredients.

“We make a range of classic pizzas using authentic Italian ingredients.

“We try to cater for everyone’s taste and dietary requirements and are always happy to go with what the customer likes.

“Our goat’s cheese, caramelised onions with a balsamic reduction is very popular, as is our meat feast.

“We have a very loyal customer base who return time and time again.

“We have some customers that have never missed a pop-up pizza event.

“Shortly after starting the business, the Covid-19 pandemic hit and everything stopped.

“All events were cancelled and it wasn’t looking good for anyone in the events industry.

“However, we started to sell our DIY pizza kits which were hugely popular and enabled people to create their own pizzas using the best, authentic Italian ingredients at home.

“Soon after, we started our pop-up pizza events in Acton Bridge which proved to be a great success.

“Due to their popularity, we have continued with our pop-up pizza events at Acton Bridge and more recently in Comberbach on Friday evenings.

“Our pizza kits and pop-up pizza events really helped build our profile as a business, especially on social media.”

Pete was thrilled to hear that The Outback Pizza Company had been shortlisted for Mid Cheshire’s Best for Pizza again this year and he was delighted to discover that he’d won the 2024 title.

“It means a lot to us because it comes from our customers.

“I was delighted to find out that we had won.

“I am very grateful to all the lovely people who made the effort to vote and who have supported us from the beginning.

“We would like to thank everyone who has shared our social media posts, bought pizza kits, visited us at our pop-up pizza events and to those who have kindly invited us to be part of their special occasions.
