HIGH street businesses are gearing up for the ‘busiest day of the year’.

Northwich’s Piña Colada Festival is almost upon us, with shops, cafes, bars and restaurants around the town excitedly preparing for the special occasion.

With so many feeling the brunt of the cost of living, the festival is a welcome relief for many independent business owners.

Abda Obeid-Findley, owner of Abda coffee shop on Witton Street, said: “We are super excited for Piña Colada.

“It is always the busiest time of the year and it is also so lovely to see the town so busy.

“I feel after such a tough year for everyone, it would be lovely to come to gather and celebrate in Northwich. Look forward to seeing all our customers!”

Abda will be serving piña colada cocktails and mocktails, pineapple salsa, piña colada and pineapple upside-down cakes and their signature piña colada iced coffee.

Also getting into the tropical spirit is the team at Kanya Bistro.

During the festival on Saturday (August 17) staff members will be donning a Hawaiian theme and diners are encouraged to do the same, with a prize draw for the best dressed.

There will also be special dishes on the menu, along with art displays, book readings and craft activities for children.

Owner Monika Palka said: “It’s an amazing event that brings the community together and the town is always thriving - what we love to see.

“It’s a very challenging time for all businesses, not only the hospitality industry, and we really appreciate organisers time and commitment to ensure that our town offers these kind of events.”

Similar sentiments are shared by Jango Alam from Bombay Quay.

“We are incredibly excited about this year’s Piña Colada Festival as it brings the community together and celebrates the vibrant hospitality industry,” he said.

“It's a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase our creativity and connect with our customers.

“Festivals like this are essential in highlighting the diverse offerings within the industry and supporting local businesses.”

The curry house will be serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails, donating £1 to St Luke’s Hospice for every customer that visits on the day.

Elsewhere, Vinnies will be ‘reinventing’ itself with new cocktails, milkshakes, street food and special edition piña colada-themed bakes.

Owner Emma Hitch said: “We can’t wait to see Northwich thriving again as it did last year.”
