AN ASDA employee ‘got more than he bargained for’ when he agreed to let customers and colleagues wax his legs for charity.
Harry Buckley, who's worked at Asda Baron Quay since March 2022, said he’d take up the challenge if England got through to the Euro 2024 finals.
Customers, colleagues, and even his eight-year-old sister were all keen to inflict a bit of pain on the 21-year-old on Saturday, August, 3, in exchange for a £1 donation.
Asked whether he had experienced the unique sensation of being waxed before, Harry added: “Never - it was a brand-new thing for me.
“The anticipation was quite nerve-wracking, but it turned out to be quite a good laugh.
“I’m just one of those people who likes to bring a bit of fun wherever I go.
“I’m not sure whether it was more painful or less painful than I was expecting.
“Thinking about it, I’d say the start was okay, but it got worse as things progressed.
“By the end, it was probably more painful than I’d bargained for.
“It does feels a little bit strange now. I’ve recently started going to the gym too, so I’m often out and about in shorts.
There’s no hiding it. It’s just something I’ll have to get used to until it grows back.
“You never know - it might be the start of a new trend.”
“Asda Barons Quay has a great working atmosphere. My colleagues are all really different kinds of people, and they all have their own unique story to tell.
“It’s a good job because I never seem to be out of there.”
Harry managed to raise £140 through instore donations, which will be distributed amongst several breast cancer charities though Asda’s nationwide fundraising campaign, Tickled Pink.
Harry said he was a bit surprised he had slightly more male tormenters than women.
He added: “In terms of takers, I’d say it was about a 60/40 split between men and women.
“A couple of women said they felt it was a nice opportunity for them to get back at men.
“The youngest was my sister, who’s eight. I think she enjoyed it a lot.”
