MIDDLEWICH families were given the chance to learn their food has a life before it hits the supermarket shelves.

The Friends of Fountain Fields Park’s event, From Field to Plate, on Friday, August 1, was a chance for residents of all ages to get up close and personal with food and producers, helping them get back to basics with all things edible.

Farmer Phil’s Roadshow offered the chance to milk a pretend cow, hold baby chicks, crush apples for juice, make butter, and even grind wheat into flour.

Among the biggest hits with younger visitors, unsurprisingly, were biscuit making and ice-cream decorating.

Guests included Northwich town mayor, Simon Whittaker, deputy mayor, Garnet Marshall, and Middlewich PCSO, Tom Faulkner.

Friends of Fountain Fields Park spokesman, Denise Appleton, said: “It was a wonderful day all round.

“A lot of families seemed to enjoy making their own biscuits and decorating their own ice-creams.

“We also took the time at midday for a minute’s silence in support and thought for the terrible tragedy in Southport this week.

“We’d like to thanks PCSO Tom Faulkner and his colleague, Tom, who always makes an effort to join in with us at these events of ours.

“Now it’s time to start getting ready for our Strawberry Tea event on Sunday, August 18, with live jazz from Pastry Shoes.

“All processed from our event go toward improving Fountain Fields Park, and towards getting a fully functioning bandstand to be used by the community.”
