AN inquest has opened into the death of a Northwich man believed to have been caused by a rare form of cancer linked to asbestos exposure.
Cheshire Coroners’ Court in Warrington heard on Wednesday, July 31, that Brian Shard died at his home in Northwich on June 2.
It is believed the 88-year-old had been suffering with Mesothelioma, although he was never formally diagnosed.
Mesothelioma is a rare type of cancer which develops in the lining covering some of the body’s organs and, according to the NHS, is usually linked to asbestos exposure.
An inquest into his death has been formally opened due to the fact it was unnatural, with the full hearing set to take place on October 24.
The court heard further work needs to be completed before the inquest can take place.
