MIDDLEWICH pub pals united by their love for a toddler who’s fighting Leukaemia walked 29 miles from Liverpool to their local in just 13.5 hours.

Matthew Bond, Clare Hayes, Paul Hayes, Alex Buckley, Teri Taylor, Dean Pallett, and Logen Steele managed to raise more than £3,000 for Alder Hey Children’s Charity, in honour of Matthew’s son, Theo Bond.

Theo, who's only two-and-a-half, has been receiving amazing care at Alder Hey, so his family and their friend decided they should give something back.

The team, all regulars at the Vaults pub on Wheelock Street, set off from Alder Hey in Knotty Ash, Liverpool, at 6am on Saturday, July 27.

By 10am, they’d reached the Brindley Theatre in Runcorn, and by 3pm, they’d got as far as the Anderton Boat Lift, where they were met by Theo and his mum, Katie Bond.

They finally cross the threshold of the Vaults of Wheelock Street at 7.30pm to a heroes' welcome, and no doubt, several pints of something cold.

Bev Bryning, Theo’s godmother and landlady of the Vaults, said: “I’m unbelievably proud of these seven people.

“What an amazing thing they did for Alder Hey Children’s Charity, all in honour of my little sunshine, Theo Bond.

“Huge thanks to everyone involved, to the support team, and of course to everyone who donated.”

Team Theo got some generous donations from passersby as they were walking, and even inspired an anonymous donor to give an amazing £1,000 through their JustGiving page, which is still open.

Theo’s mum, Katie Bond, said: “These people honestly amaze me, and I can’t thank them enough from the bottom of mine and Theo’s hearts.

“The generosity they showed on Saturday was astonishing

“They are one-in-a-million, and friends for life. Thank you forever.”
