- The crash occurred shortly before 2.08pm on the southbound carriageway, between junction 18, for Middlewich and Holmes Chapel, and junction 17, for Sandbach.
- The Air Ambulance has been scrambled.
- The crash involved two cars and an HGV.
- Police stopped traffic in both directions after children, thought be from one of the cars involved, were spotted on the central reservation.
