AN elderly woman was taken to hospital after a crash on a country lane which left fuel spilled on the carriageway.

The collision, involving two cars, happened on Byley Lane, between Middlewich and Cranage, just before 11.55am on Saturday, July 27.

Police, ambulance, and fire engines from Middlewich and Winsford attended.

Two people were injured, including a 77-year-old woman.

Both were cared for by staff from Northwest Ambulance Service staff, and the 77-year-old was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The road was closed while Cheshire Fire Service worked to stem fuel leaks from both cars.

They succeeded with one, but due to the position of the second car after the impact, couldn’t stop the leaks completely.

Officers used absorbent mats to limit the impact of the spillage.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “At around 11.55am on Saturday, July 27, police were called to reports of a collision on Byley Lane, Cranage.

“Officers attended and found the collision involved a gold Honda Civic and a red and black Renault Captur.

“Minor injuries were reported, and a 77-year-old woman was taken to hospital in an ambulance as a precaution."

A Cheshire Fire Service spokesman said: “A two car collision left two casualties being cared for by ambulance personnel.

“Police closed the road as firefighters used specialist mats to absorb fuel leaks.

“One vehicle was isolated by the crews, but it wasn't possible to isolate the second due to its position following the collision.

“Firefighters were at the scene for around forty minutes.”
