POLICE have issued a warning amid a spate of break-ins at a former care home.

Northwich Local Policing Unit has set out to tackle anti-social behaviour at the Leftwich Green Community Support Centre.

The 30-bed facility, which supported people who required assisted living, was shut down by Cheshire West and Chester Council in 2018.

Since then, it has become a target of vandals as it waits for new owners to take over.

PCSO Lee Robertson said: “Last year there were break-ins on a number of occasions. With this, the building was placed on the patrol plan and talks with CWAC about the building took place.

“The break-ins were occurring due to the fact that the rear fencing had fallen down, so CWAC boarded up all access points and made the fencing at the rear of the property more secure.

“This stopped the break-ins, the number of reports declined and eventually there were no issues with this building. So with that, the building came off the patrol plan.”

However, over the past couple of weeks, police have once again started receiving reports of issues at the centre.

Officers have been down to the site and noticed new access points, with the boarding have been damaged.

As such, the centre has now been put back on the force’s patrol plan and anyone spotted in or around the area will be questioned.

PCSO Robertson added: “This building is a health hazard and this is the main reason for these patrols.

“The building inside is not safe, with live wires coming from the ceiling, glass and other items that could cause injury.

“We do ask if anyone knows of anyone who is entering this building, we do advise that they must not due to mainly their safety.

“If there is any suspicious activity around the building then please call it into 101.”
