A MAN who subjected his former partner to a 'barrage of harassment' has been fined more than £1,000 at court.

Dewald Grobbelaar, of Keats Lane, Northwich, appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court on Monday, July 22, for sentencing on one count of harassment without violence.

It was heard the 46-year-old had been in an on/off relationship with a woman for around year and during that time, they had split up on 10 occasions.

After each break up, Grobbelaar would then harass the woman and continue to do so, despite being asked to stop, prompting the victim to report the matter to police.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "On each occasion, the victim was subjected to a barrage of harassment using WhatsApp, Instagram, FB Messenger and phone calls from Grobbelaar.

"Grobbelaar was arrested for the offences and admitted to sending the messages in interview.

"The victim originally asked for the defendant to be warned about his behaviour, but he has continued to send her messages whist on bail with conditions not to contact her."

Grobbelaar pleaded guilty to the offence on June 24 before returning to the dock this week for sentence.

Magistrates imposed a 12-month community order, requiring Grobbelaar to complete up to 25 days of rehabilitation activity.

The bench fined him £1,152 and ordered him to pay £85 in costs and a surcharge of £114.
