A SCHOOL is celebrating earning a prestigious award.

Willow Wood Primary School in Winsford has achieved the Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM) Gilt.

Having previously attained the PSQM Award in 2022, the Gilt prize is a recognition of the school’s sustained improvement in the delivery of the science curriculum.

Head teacher Martin Bell said: “Once again, it is fantastic to receive this recognition for the teaching and learning of Science here at Willow Wood as we nurture and develop the scientists of tomorrow.

“Furthermore, our dedicated staff continue to implement school improvement throughout all aspects of the curriculum and school life - striving to provide the best learning opportunities for all our children!”

The PSQM is run by the University of Hertfordshire.

It is a comprehensive evidence-based professional development programme that helps develop science leadership, ensuring teachers have the knowledge, capability and support they need to transform science education and shape future generations.

Since launching in 2011, more than 5,000 PSQMs have been awarded, including 198 this month.

Helen Sizer, PSQM co-director said: ‘By enabling effective science leadership, PSQM is powering the potential of all children to see the relevance and importance of science in their lives, now and in the future.

“Schools that have achieved a PSQM have demonstrated a significant commitment to science leadership, teaching and learning and the profile and quality of science in each accredited school is very high.

“Science subject leaders, their colleagues, head teachers, children, parents and governors should be very proud.”
