It’s been three weeks since I was elected as the first MP for the new Mid Cheshire constituency.

It is a privilege to serve as your MP and whether you voted for me or not, I will work as hard as I can to represent the whole constituency.

The first few weeks of the new parliament have been dominated by the King’s Speech, which announced a raft of new bills that will help residents in Mid Cheshire with living costs, the NHS, housing, transport, education and more.

Delivered by Charles III, the King’s Speech set out the new government’s ambitious agenda to change Britain for the better, with more than 35 bills announced.

But more than that, the speech has kicked off the process of change.

Here are six ways the Government will get to work for people in Northwich, Winsford and Middlewich:

First - on the economy - the Government will create new protections to stop anyone ‘playing fast and loose’ with the public finances like Liz Truss did. It will also boost economic growth, such as through creating jobs in clean, green industries.

Second - to make work pay - the Government will pass an Employment Rights Bill to ban exploitative zero-hours contracts, end fire and re-hire, and make sure the minimum wage is a genuine living wage.

Third - on transport - to give local leaders the power to take control of their bus services, as well as bringing train operators back into public ownership.

Fourth - on education - every primary school child in Mid Cheshire and across the country will benefit from a free breakfast club and 6,500 new specialist teachers, who will be recruited in key subjects. The Government will also champion technical education by reforming the apprenticeship levy.

Fifth - on the NHS - the Government has pledged to slash NHS waiting lists with 40,000 extra appointments a week, and to commit to an NHS dentistry rescue plan. It has also pledged to introduce dedicated mental health support in every school in Mid Cheshire and across the country.

Sixth - on housing - the Government pledged to ban Section 21 no fault evictions, which have seen hundreds of Mid Cheshire families evicted from their homes in recent years. The Government will also ban the sale of new leasehold flats, and regulate ground rents so that homeowners are no longer faced with unfair escalating costs.

Changing our towns for the better won’t happen overnight, but this is an ambitious programme that will improve our economy, fix our NHS, and make Northwich, Winsford and Middlewich even better places to live.

After so many years of chaos, we have returned to an approach based on public service, trust, and competence.
