FIREFIGHTERS tackled a burning 30-tonne piece of heavy plant machinery near Middlewich.

Fire engines from Winsford, Middlewich, and Sandbach responded to the emergency call to Holmes Chapel Lane in Sproston Green at 1.02pm on Monday, July 22.

Once on site, crews put out the fire with hoses while wearing oxygen masks.

Thermal cameras were used to monitor the vehicle until it cooled to a safe temperature.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Heavy plant machinery weighing around 30 tonnes was on fire.

“The blaze was tackled by firefighters in breathing apparatus using hose reel jets.

“The machine was then regularly scanned with a thermal imaging camera until the heat had cooled to a normal temperature.”
