FIREFIGHTERS had to rescue a woman who fell into a river.

Emergency services were called to Winsford this morning (July 18) following reports that someone had fallen in the Weaver and was unable to get out.

It is understood the woman had been trying to fetch her dog.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service crew used the What3Words app to find the person before using a ladder to help bring them to safety at around 9.30am.

“What3Words was used to locate the site of a casualty who had fallen into the River Weaver and was unable to get out,” said a CFRS spokesperson.

“Firefighters from Winsford used a triple extension ladder to reach the casualty and bring them to safety.

“North West Ambulance were also in attendance and checked the casualty to ensure there were no injuries.”

The ambulance service confirmed that the person did not need to be taken to hospital.

Cheshire Police were also in attendance.

A spokesperson said: "At 9.20am on Thursday police were called to reports that a woman had fallen into the River Weaver near Thrush Way, Winsford.

"The caller reported that the woman was attempting to get her dog out of the river when she fell in.

"Police and fire attended the scene, along with the support of the police drone and police helicopter.

"The woman was subsequently rescued from the river by firefighters."
