SPACES are booking up fast for a new charity cycle ride.

St Luke’s Hospice has announced the first-ever Salt Line Cycle will take place in September.

The ride will start and end at Winsford Ford retailer, Cliff Dickenson and Son, who have helped organise the event.

Managing director Chris Winward, also a vice president of St Luke’s, said: “The work that St Luke’s Hospice do in the community cannot be underestimated, they are there providing a wonderful service for people in their greatest time of need.”

Mr Winward has a lifelong passion for cycling.

Over the years he has taken on several challenges, including riding from London to Paris and on another occasion to Monchengladbach in Germany.

He is now looking to use his love of cycling to help raise money for St Luke’s.

In the past, Cliff Dickenson and Son have provided the hospice with new cars for the Super Summer draw and sponsored events such as the Bubble Rush.

The ‘Epic Challenge’ will push seasoned riders to their limits over a 75-mile course which passes through the likes of Tarporley, Nantwich, Alsager, Goostrey and Davenham.

For those looking for a slightly easier task, there is the 50-mile ‘Classic Challenge’.

There is also the ‘Family Fun Cycle’ which is 10 miles around the Winsford area and is suitable for all ages.

Jane Thompson, board trustee from St Luke’s Hospice, said: “We’re so grateful to our loyal supporter Cliff Dickenson and Son for coming up with this fundraising idea and for making the event possible.

“We’re very excited to be offering a new and challenging event to help raise funds for patient care at the Hospice and it promises to be a great day.

“So far, we’ve had a fantastic reaction from local cyclists with around a third of the places filled, but there’s still time to register.

“Whether you want a fun day out, or you’re a seasoned cyclist looking for a new challenge, this event has a route for all abilities. We hope you’ll join us!”
