NEW drone footage shows ‘strong progress’ on building works to give Winsford ‘a town centre it can be proud of’.

Commissioned by Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) the footage shows the completed Costa Coffee Drive-thru on Dene Drive, as well as progress on the new B&M store and public square, now home to the town’s war memorials.

CWAC say the redevelopment will ‘unlock economic opportunities for existing and new businesses’ while creating ‘a thriving waterfront area with access to leisure and nature’.

The £22.5 million project, funded by CWAC and the government’s Future High Street Fund, is the biggest investment in the town centre shopping area since the 1960s.

The land was bought by CWAC from private owners in 2018, and building work began in spring 2023.

While a new B&M superstore and garden centre are still under construction, new businesses including My Dentist, Coffee House, and Caprinos Pizza have already started trading.

A new 168-space car park is being built and will include electric vehicle charging spaces, and improvements to walking and cycling access, including cycle storage, will make the town centre easy to visit.

CWAC hopes the public spaces will be complete by winter this year, while the new retail unit will be handed over to B&M early in 2025.

Cllr Nathan Pardoe, CWAC cabinet member for inclusive economy, regeneration and digital transformation, said: "The drone footage shows strong progress on the first phase of the regeneration of Winsford town centre, and it's an exciting time for Winsford.

"People’s shopping habits have changed, meaning town centres have to change too.

“CWAC purchased the town centre and is investing in it to reverse the years of decline under the former private owners.

"Work continues, and I'm looking forward to seeing more progress, and to Winsford having a town centre it can be proud of."
