A PRIMARY school was awash with colour as children, parents and brave members of staff took part in a fun event raising money for two new classrooms.
Work has already begun to build the new facilities at Whitegate CE Primary School after planning permission was granted last year.
And to help fund the project, the school hosted a colour run and raffle on June 28, organised by volunteer group Friends of Whitegate School (FOWS).
Head teacher Caroline Mackenzie said: "We are so excited to be replacing our old mobile classrooms which have been on site since 1998.
"The new rooms will allow all of our children to flourish in an environment which is modern and bright.
"I am so thankful for the fundraising efforts of our parents and carers. Without this, the new build would not be able to go ahead."
After a warm up on the school playground, led by sports coach Ed Parrish, the children geared up to run the colour gauntlet across the grounds.
Setting off up to the top playground and through the reception outdoor area, the children were met by eager members of staff and the FOWS team, armed with water-squirters.
Thoroughly drenched, the children charged onto the path to the school field, only to be greeted by a wall of orange powder at the first colour station.
More soakings and showers of paint followed as those brave enough to take part clambered over obstacles and tried to dodge further powder, although in many cases the paint was embraced.
The event continued with a raffle, with lots of prizes donated by businesses in the local community.
