POLICE have shut a main road near Northwich.

The A49 Forest Road in Cuddington is currently closed following reports of a fire outside a disused building.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service have said there was a 'controlled burn', with crews using hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

Two engines, one each from the Winsford and Northwich stations, remain at the scene.

A spokesperson said: "Firefighters used two hose reel jets to extinguish a controlled burn which had gotten out of hand.

"Police were in attendance to manage the traffic while they dealt with the incident.

"The A49 is temporarily closed - please avoid the area."

Cheshire Police were also called to the scene to aid with traffic management.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We were called at 2pm to reports of a fire at a bungalow in Forest Road, Cuddington.

“Officers are assisting at the scene.”

It is understood the road remains closed, between Norley Road and the A556 Chester Road, as of 2.45pm on Tuesday (July 9).
