COSTA Coffee is set to open a second store in Winsford.
The international chain of coffee houses has been granted permission to build a drive-thru on the land at the junction of Bostock Road and Road One in Winsford Industrial Estate.
During the consultation period, Winsford Town Council members said they felt there was no need for another shop, given that Costa only recently opened a branch in the town centre.
However, Rula Developments Limited, who submitted the application on behalf of Costa, said the new store would serve ‘a very different market’.
The application continues: “The development proposal represents further economic investment in the employment area on Road One, which is allocated to support economic growth in the borough.
“The proposed coffee shop with drive-thru is intended to serve the needs of those working and visiting the wider employment area on Road One as well as attracting some pass-by trade.
“It would also ensure facilities are provided in the employment area making it more attractive to potential investors and occupiers.”
The application adds that the Costa would create around 15 new jobs, with a mix of full and part-time opportunities.
There would be further employment as a result of the construction phase of the development, as well as opportunities for local suppliers and contractors.
If approved, the new Costa would follow in the footsteps of the drive-thru which opened in May as part of the town centre’s multi-million-pound regeneration.
Before this, coffee lovers could get their Costa fix locally at shops such as Morrisons and Co-Op, as well as the Winsford Gate Service Station.
Plans for the second drive-thru store, complete with external seating, were submitted in February this year.
The project also includes a 34-bay car park, including three electric vehicle charging points and two disabled spaces, along with four bicycle storage spaces.
On Friday (July 5), Cheshire West and Chester Council formally approved the proposals.
