ARMED police were called to an address in Northwich after residents reported hearing 'gunshots'.

At least five police cars, including firearms response vehicles, rushed to the address on Burgess Place, Castle, at 2.08pm on Monday, July 8.  

Officers sealed off the street and surrounded the address before seizing a firearm. 

The 43-year-old occupant, a man, was then arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

A Cheshire Police spokesman says they were responding to concerns for the occupant’s safety.

The police spokesman added: “At 2.08pm on Monday, July 8, police were called to an address in Burgess Place, Northwich, following concerns for the welfare of the occupant.

"Officers attended and contained the address. They then seized a firearm and detained the occupant, a 43-year-old man, who was taken into custody on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence."
