SUPERDRUG employees in Northwich are to start wearing bodycams.

Staff at the health and beauty store on Witton Street will be provided with a new piece of security equipment.

It comes as part of a nationwide initiative following a rise in retail crime.

A spokesperson for Superdrug said: “We have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to violence and aggression in stores, so our priority is to make sure colleagues feel prepared and protected in their working environment.

“We can confirm that our store colleagues across the UK are equipped with headsets and bodycams and in addition, we have recently rolled out training to help keep our store teams safe.”

The Northwich branch took to social media to let customers know about this new development.

It is understood the cameras will only be turned on if they are needed.

A Facebook post from Superdrug Northwich read: “You may notice something when you next visit our store.

“These only record if we activate them.

“Hopefully we never actually need to use them, unfortunately with the rise in retail crime Superdrug have invested in body cameras.”
