THERE was relief for the Conservatives on a tough night as they won Chester South and Eddisbury.

The seat covers much of the boundary of the old Eddisbury seat, but with Winsford now moved to Mid Cheshire.

Residents in Weaverham now vote in this seat.

It has historically been a strong blue area but the polls were predicting a tight race.

In the end, The Conservatives held on with Aphra Brandreth, daughter of former MP and TV star Gyles, successful.

She said: "“This is a very special constituency for me and my family and it's been an absolute pleasure to be out across the whole of Chester South and Eddisbury. I've met so many wonderful people and it's a huge honour to have been selected as the MP here.”

She enjoyed a majority of more than 3,000.

The final result:

Conservative: 19,905

Labour: 16,848

Reform: 6,414

Lib Dem: 5,430

Green: 2,278

Independent (Gillian Edwards): 1,611
