LOVE came out on top as protestors tried to disrupt Winsford Pride.

The town’s annual event celebrating the LGBTQ+ community returned over the weekend.

Despite some small protests, the event proved to be a big success once again, drawing a record number of attendees to Winsford Marina.

The mayor of Winsford, Cllr Wayne Fletcher, said: “We are incredibly proud of the turnout and the overwhelming support from the community.

“The spirit of Pride was truly alive and we are grateful to everyone who came out to celebrate love and equality.

“The minor protest reminded us of the importance of standing together and continuing our efforts toward acceptance and inclusion.”

Winsford Pride featured a variety of entertainers, speakers and local vendors.

Highlights included drag queens GemiTy and Stella Black, former X-Factor contestant Andy Hofton and local musicians Mutt and Jeff.

Also taking to the stage was soul singer Lee Mackenzie, performing for the first time at a pride event in Cheshire.

He said: “It was a great day!

“Yes, there were protesters, which is their right, but the majority were respectful and didn't cause a disturbance.

“The event itself was brilliant and the atmosphere was one of fun - children playing and families picnicking and enjoying the sun.

“The crowd were fantastic. I was last on stage after a long sunny day and their support was amazing right to the end of the day.

“The day was a resounding success and I was honoured to be asked to participate.

“Thanks to the council and everyone who attended for making it a super day.”

Stella Black added: "The day was amazing, it’s great to see another town in Cheshire do their bit to bring inclusivity and diversity to it.

"The weather was glorious and the atmosphere was fantastic.

"It was a pleasure as a drag queen to feel so welcomed into a community."

Sarah Rossington, events manager at Winsford Town Council, added: “The event was a vibrant celebration of diversity, love, and inclusivity, drawing a record number of attendees who enjoyed a wide range of activities, performances, and community engagement.

“While the event was overwhelmingly positive, we acknowledge that there was a small protest. Our team worked closely with local authorities to ensure that the protest did not disrupt the festivities, and we are pleased to report that the event continued safely and smoothly for all attendees.

“Winsford Town Council extends heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers, performers, and attendees who made this event possible. We remain committed to fostering a community where everyone feels valued and included, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.”

“We look forward to building on this year’s success and continuing to create safe and celebratory spaces for the LGBTQ+ community.

“Stay tuned for more updates and events as we continue to champion equality and love for all.”
