MID Cheshire residents will have an opportunity to put questions to the candidates hoping to become the new constituency's first MP.

The Northwich & Winsford Guardian and Radio Northwich have joined forces to host a parliamentary hustings event ahead of the July 4 election.

The event, which will be in the format of a Question Time debate, takes place at the Winnington Park Recreation Club in Park Road from 7pm on Monday, June 24.

Matt Simpson, content editor at the Northwich & Winsford Guardian, said: "I am happy to be able to partner with Radio Northwich in putting on this event for residents of our towns.

"Events such as this are important as they provide people an opportunity to hear the views of each MP candidate and put questions to them.

"These candidates will be hopeful of becoming the first MP for the Mid Cheshire constituency, which was created following a shake-up of the electoral boundaries.

"If you have a burning question you want answering to help with your decision before July 4, and are unable to attend the meeting, then please email us and we will try to ask it on the night."

The candidates confirmed to be standing in the election include Helen Clawson (independent), Andrew Cooper (Labour), Charles Fifield (Conservatives), Mark Green (Green Party), Emma Guy (Reform UK), Jack Price-Harbach (Lib Dems) and Stella Mellor (independent).

All candidates, except Ms Mellor, have confirmed their attendance at the hustings event.

On the night, they will be given two minutes to make an opening address, before the meeting is thrown open to questions from the floor and those submitted by residents unable to attend.

Before the event ends, the candidates will be given a further two minutes to address the audience with a closing statement.

Radio Northwich presenter Mike Cooksley, who will moderate the hustings, said: "We're delighted to be teaming up with the Guardian to bring this opportunity for constituents to hear from the candidates and ask those all important questions about their policies and thoughts running up to the General Election."

Entry to the event will be on a first come, first serve basis, with a capacity of 200 at Winnington Park Recreation Club. Doors open at 6.30pm.

If you are unable to attend, but would like to submit a question, please email matt.simpson@newsquest.co.uk.
