VETS have warned of a 'potential risk' to pets at a popular beauty spot.
Northwich Vets, on Manchester Road, has advised dog owners to avoid Shakerley Mere.
It follows reports of an 'unknown cause' posing a danger to pets.
However, Northwich Vets say they have not yet seen any cases of illnesses.
A spokesperson for the practice said: “Attention clients! We have been informed of a potential risk to your pets, from an unknown cause at the popular dog walking area of Shakerley Mere.
“We would ask our clients to either use alternative dog walks, or they ensure that their pets are not allowed into the water at Shakerley.
“If your pet shows signs of illness after being in the water here or elsewhere, please call the practice.
“At this point in time we have not seen any cases of illness at our clinic, and are only passing this on as a courtesy.
“We will monitor the situation and inform you if any new information arises.”
