WORKERS have been evacuated after a large fire broke out.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service crews have been called to Works Lane in Lostock Gralam this afternoon following reports of a blaze.

It is understood the fire involved "two large cylinders" with the area evacuated and a cordon put in place.

A spokesperson for CFRS said: "Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are tackling a fire involving two large cylinders.

"An evacuation of site personnel in the immediate area has taken place and a cordon has been put in place.

"Crews are monitoring the cylinders with thermal imaging cameras while cooling with hose reel jets."

Three fire engines are at the scene - one each from the Northwich, Middlewich, and Winsford stations.

At 2.40pm on Monday (June 3), CFRS updated to say that the fire is being brought under control and that the flames on one of the cylinders had been extinguished.

"Crews are using one hose reel jet to continue to cool the cylinders," the spokesperson added.

"Temperature readings will be taken at regular intervals."

Cheshire Police are also in attendance.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At 1.50pm on Monday (June 3) police were made aware of a cylinder fire at an industrial premises in Lostock Gralam.

"The fire has been extinguished, but firefighters reman in attendance and police have closed Works Lane.

"A small cordon has also been put in place on the site as a precautionary measure."
