AN inmate of a Cheshire prison has been arrested by police after absconding.

It comes following a six-day manhunt by officers, with a public appeal for information launched.

Cheshire Police issued an appeal for information from members of the public after a 43-year-old man absconded from HMP Thorn Cross.

He was last seen at the Appleton Thorn prison at around 6.30pm last Wednesday, May 22.

The force said that the Arley Road prison inmate had links to Preston, but officers believed he could be further afield.

However, Cheshire Police has today, Tuesday, confirmed that the prisoner was arrested in Lancashire last night, Monday.

In its appeal, a force spokesman previously said: “Officers are currently carrying out a number of enquiries in a bid to trace him.

“We are urging anyone with information as to his whereabouts to get in touch.

“Anyone who sees him, or knows of his whereabouts, is urged not to approach him, but to call Cheshire Police immediately on 999.”
