A WARNING has been issued after firefighters tackled an out-of-control campfire.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to Delamere Forest over the weekend following reports of a fire.
They were joined at the scene by Forestry England officers, who have now confirmed the blaze was caused by a campfire.
“A small group of young people who had wild camped and sadly their campfire had got a little out of hand, promptly dealt with by the fire service,” said a spokesperson for Forestry England.
“They were very apologetic and worried about getting into trouble.
“This was a great opportunity for us to have a chat with them about wild camping not being permitted and the dangers that lighting campfires pose and how quickly things can get out of control.”
The fire service sent one fire engine, from the Chester station, to Delamere Forest at around 12.49pm on Saturday (April 6).
Using the app What3Words, firefighters were quickly able to locate and extinguish the flames.
A CFRS spokesperson said: “A campfire believed to have been lit in Delamere Forest was found using What3Words.
“It was extinguished by firefighters using water.
“Forest staff also attended.”
