A DRINK driving suspect has been charged after a crash on the motorway.
Tapiwa Sasha Mafunga has been charged with drink driving.
It comes following a crash on the M56 westbound in the early hours of Sunday morning (April 7).
“Tapiwa Sasha Mafunga, 32, of Ash Road, Crewe, was arrested on Sunday, April 7,” said a spokesperson for Cheshire Police.
“He has since been charged with drink driving.
“He has been released on bail until a hearing at Crewe Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 7.
“The charges follow a two-vehicle collision on the M56 westbound on Sunday, April 7, between junction six and seven which was reported to police at 3.40am.”
Traffic on the M56 westbound was stopped for around two hours as a result of the crash.
Cheshire Police were joined at the scene by National Highways traffic officers and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Two CFRS engines, one each from the Lymm and Wilmslow stations, arrived at around 3.44am.
A spokesperson said: “Firefighters dealt with a vehicle smoking slightly on the M56, following a road traffic collision.
“The crews used a hose reel at the scene and made the vehicle safe.”
