POLICE are investigating after a fire was started in the woods deliberately.
Emergency services were called to Verdin Avenue in Northwich last night following reports of a fire.
One Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service crew, from the Northwich station arrived at around 9.15pm on Thursday (April 4) to find a fire in a nearby wooded area.
Firefighters used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames before reporting the incident to Cheshire Police, believing the blaze to have been started deliberately.
Police arrived shortly after and searched the area for suspects but were unable to locate any.
A spokesperson for the force said: “At 9.35pm on Thursday (April 4), police were made aware of reports that an unknown number of individuals had started a fire in a wooded area near Winnington Street, Northwich.
“Fire crews attended the scene and quickly extinguished the fire, no one was hurt and nothing was damaged.
“A search area for the individuals who started the fire was also conducted, but no one was found.
“Police do believe it was started deliberately and anyone with information regarding the incident should contact Cheshire Police on 101 or via www.cheshire.police.uk//tell-us/ quoting IML-1793117.”
