EMERGENCY services are dealing with an incident on the railway near Greenbank station.
Lines in both directions were closed just before 9.20pm on Saturday, March 30.
Residents have also reported the police helicopter circling in the area.
Services in the directions of both Manchester and Chester are not expected to resume today.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: “The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Greenbank and Chester.
“Whilst they attend to the scene, all lines are currently closed.
“Trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Chester will be cancelled between Greenbank and Chester.
“Disruption is expected until the end of the day.
“Ticket restrictions have been lifted during this disruption.”
