PLANS are brewing for a new Costa Coffee shop and drive-thru on a retail park in Macclesfield.

Orbit Investments (Properties) Limited has applied to Cheshire East Council for permission to build the new Costa on an existing car park at Lyme Green Retail Park.

The proposed drive-thru unit would be located to the south-west of the Brunel Road car park access road.

A design and access statement submitted by The Emerson Group on behalf of the applicant, says: “The proposals would see increased investment into the area and bring forward the development of a small, high quality commercial unit.

“The proposed coffee shop would also provide an ancillary facility for the benefit of the surrounding workforce, along with the wider pass-by trips from those already on the surrounding highway network.”

The proposal would mean the loss of 33 parking spaces, but the planning document states it ‘also provides two electric vehicle charging bays, two disabled parking spaces and appropriate cycle and motorcycle parking’ as well as a ‘pull-in’ bay.

It adds: "Some off-site highways works in relation to the removal of the existing pedestrian refuge just off Brunel Road and the provision of a new pedestrian crossing within the retail park are sought.”

The application, number 23/4736M, can be viewed on the planning portal on Cheshire East Council’s website.

The closing date for public comments is January 31 and the application is due to be determined by a planning officer under delegated authority.
