PRIMARY school children in Winsford who can’t get enough of reading have been handed one of childhood highest honours for their dedication to stories.
A select group of pupils at Darnhall Primary School are among the first in the country to be awarded a brand new and much-coveted Blue Peter Book badge, designed especially for keen readers.
Created by legendary children’s illustrator, Quentin Blake, who’s been bringing Roald Dahl’s dark fictional universe to life for generations, the badge is award to children who can demonstrate their passion for reading to the makers of the iconic children’s TV programme, Blue Peter.
The initiative is designed for five to 15-year-olds to encourage a love of reading, but also underscores the importance of storytelling and imagination in education.
The award is not only a recognition of their efforts, but also a celebration of the magic stories bring into our lives.
By wearing the badge, teachers hope these avid young readers will inspiring other students to embark on their own literary adventures.
Subject leader for English, Hayden Baxendale, said: “These kids are such dedicated readers.
“Both as a department and as a school, we couldn’t be more proud.
“With these badges adorning their chests, these young bookworms are setting an example for their peers, igniting a passion for reading which promises to endure beyond the confines of the school walls.
“It’s been lovely to see how our children have blossomed through reading, and it’s great to see them wearing their new badges Blue Peter Book badges with pride."
