A PRIMARY school and nursery in Winsford are closed today following a small fire in the early hours of this morning.
Wharton CE Primary School and Start Well Learning Day Nursery and Pre School on Greville Drive have asked parents to keep children at home.
Posting on social media, head teacher Natalie Tomlinson and chairman of governors Sue Tomlinson said: “School is closed today to all children and staff as unfortunately we have had a small fire which has resulted in significant water damage overnight.

“The fire brigade and all relevant agencies have been contacted and attended school.
“Everything possible is being done to ensure that we can reopen as quickly and safely as possible.”
Angela Hayward, director of Start Well Learning Ltd, said: “Due to no electricity, our phone lines will be down.”
Two fire engines attended the school in the early hours of Friday morning.
The small fire was out when the first fire engine arrived at 3.42am.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The fire was out on arrival due to the sprinkler system being activated.
“A post fire inspection will be carried out next week.”
The school and nursery will let parents know on Sunday if they are able to reopen on Monday.
