A CHURCH home to a First World War memorial will go under the hammer.
The former Methodist church in Moulton has hit the market, with an auction set to take place next month.
It comes as Hinds Developments awaits the result of a planning application submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council earlier this year.
If approved, the church, which was built in 1875, would be converted into a home with the neighbouring hall turned into a garage.
Located at the junction of Main Road and Chapel Street, the locally listed building continued to operate as a church and meeting place for the congregation until around three years ago, when it was closed and sold on.
“This site provides a development opportunity in keeping with the character of the existing building and local character,” reads a design and access statement included in the application.
“This application delivers three new homes which can be sensitively designed and well integrated into the surroundings.”
The plans had originally been to convert the site into three homes.
However, neighbours raised concerns about the effect this would have on parking.
As such, the proposals were amended and Hind Developments now hope to create one home and a garage.
The application also explains that a First World War memorial plaque is located inside the main church building.
As such, any potential development would restrict access and thus the developers are looking to relocate the memorial, with discussions ongoing with the British Legion.
Moulton Methodist Church is being marketed by Auction House North West, with a guide price of £250,000.
Bidding is set to open at midday on Thursday, December 14.
