ONE of the world's most successful shows is coming to Manchester, and we can give a preview of what you can expect.

Hamilton plays at the Palace Theatre in Manchester from Saturday, November 11, and it is the first time the show has been on in the UK outside of London.

With an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the production, the Guardian can give readers a taste of what they can expect if they get their hands on the hottest theatre tickets around.

Speaking to the Guardian, one of the show's stars - Billy Nevers - explains why people should head to the theatre to see the award-winning production.

Billy, who plays the roles of the Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in the musical, said: "This is the first time it has ever been to a different city in the UK apart from London, and it’s an all-new cast with new actors and new beings bringing new life into this piece.

"Very rarely do you get to do a new version of a full company that’s new to the show, learning the show from scratch.

"We’ve been given the freedom to bring our full selves to the characters."

Hamilton has won 11 Tony Awards (including best musical), seven Olivier Awards, the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for drama and the 2016 Grammy Award for 'Best Musical Theatre Album.'

The magnitude of the production is not lost on the all-new cast, Billy says: "There’s a reputation to uphold - there’s a lot of expectation when watching Hamilton.

"The important thing to me is that we get to bring it to people’s city.

"Everyone that I have spoken to is excited to watch the show, and it just excites us to do our best work."

The actor added: "The final piece of the puzzle is the audience."

Hamilton is set to attract audiences from far and wide when it opens in Manchester next weekend, and there's plenty for audiences to enjoy - whether seeing the musical for the first or hundredth time.

Billy said: "Everyone has to come and see it again – there’s so much in the show, whether that’s the historical things that happen within the musical, or just the music and rapping.

"You notice something new every time, and you catch new things when new people are giving themselves to the production.

"There’s a lot of material and you can’t catch it all from the first watch."

The cultural and critical significance of Hamilton isn't lost on the Jefferson/Lafayette actor, either.

He said: "When I was at school and was hearing this musical and listening to it I had such a big connection to it.

"I’d never seen anything like it or heard anything like it.

"People that grew up with the show are now in the show."

Reflecting on his own experiences of Hamilton, Billy said: "This show is what inspired me to continue a pursuit of musical theatre.

"I auditioned for Hamilton so many times, and when I finally got the call it was just surreal - I couldn't quite take it in."

When asked what he would say to those unsure about seeing this production of Hamilton, Billy said: "This show is the show of the decade, if not the century, and it's not one to be missed.

"I think that if anyone has doubts then they must come and see the show.

"Everyone will find something that they enjoy."

Hamilton opens at Manchester's Palace Theatre on Saturday, November 11, and runs until February 24, 2024.
