THIS year will be the final time Winsford's Remembrance events will be held at the town's current war memorial site.
The Cenotaph and the Boer War Memorial, currently situated in Fountain Court, will be moved in 2024 to a new dedicated civic square as part of the town's ongoing regeneration.
Despite the demolition and construction work taking place nearby as part of the £22m project, the Royal British Legion and Winsford Town Council have organised two events, to take place across Remembrance weekend.
The first, on Saturday, November 11, will be a service at the war memorials from 10.45am before the second event on Sunday, November 12.
Sunday's parade will begin at 10.15am, setting off from Wyvern House and heading to the war memorials via The Drumber where another service will take place, again from 10.45am.
Due to their being limited space because the regeneration works, organisations are being contacted directly by the organisers to ask them to attend on either the Saturday or the Sunday.
Cllr Nathan Pardoe, cabinet member for inclusive economy, regeneration and digital transformation, said: “Remembrance Sunday is important to the people of Winsford, it is our chance to remember those who served and their families.
"Cheshire West and Chester Council has maintained safe access to the memorials during construction works, which has cost more money but was the right thing to do for Winsford.
"I’d like to thank Winsford Town Council and the Royal British Legion for organising the Remembrance Sunday events despite the added challenge of the construction works.
“The refurbishment and relocation of the war memorials to a new town centre civic square in the new year will provide a better environment for people to take part in future Remembrance events and pay their respects.
"It’ll be a space Winsford can be proud of, and on Remembrance Sunday and throughout the year, we will remember those who served.”
The war memorials are set to be moved to the new town centre civic square in the first half of 2024, where there will be 'improved and increased' space surrounding them. They will be installed at surface level to provide better access for all.
