PUBLIC toilets in Weaverham are firmly back on the agenda.
Residents needing to spend a penny have been allowed to use the facilities at Weaverham Community Centre after the village’s old toilet block on Church Street was closed due to ongoing anti-social behaviour more than a decade ago.
Weaverham Parish Council have investigated several options to replace them over the years, including a proposal for a self-cleaning toilet on the island near the shops on Northwich Road.
The issue was raised again by residents at a meeting of Weaverham Parish Council on Monday, October 23.
On Wednesday, October 25, Cheshire West and Chester (CWAC) councillor for Weaver and Cuddington ward, Gillian Edwards, held a further meeting to discuss with the matter with residents, Weaverham parish councillors, and representatives from the Weaverham Trust.
Cllr Edwards said the meeting was ‘constructive’, and it ‘raised a lot of points for consideration, including possible locations’.
“This is such an important issue for the village,” she added.
“Having grown up and lived in Weaverham all my life, I know how important such a facility is to the village for both young and old alike.
“The Community Centre have been extremely generous in allowing people to use their facilities, however a designated public toilet is essential especially in this day and age.
“The parish council wanted to include a toilet with their initial plans for the renovation of Russet Road Play Park, but various factors prohibited this at that time.
“I’m working with the parish council to identify which option would be best for the whole village, and the meeting last week was really helpful to gauge public opinion with this.”
Cllr Edwards confirmed the issue will be up for further discussion when Weaverham Parish Council’s environment group meets on Wednesday, November 8, 7.15pm, at Weaverham Community Centre.
“All residents are welcome to attend to have their say,” she added.
