CHILDREN can now make plans for their primary school's 'Secret Garden' after a group of Scouts offered a helping hand to tidy it up.

Hartford Primary School welcomed Patch Hall and the Explorer Scouts earlier this month, where they were tasked with clearing the garden area at the side of the early years building.

The 16-strong group, some of whom were former pupils, cleared the raised bed, cut down a tree and cleared the weeds which will allow the school's youngsters to plant there come next Spring.

Early years teacher Kim Rowland was overjoyed with the results. She said: "We really can’t thank them enough for giving up their Saturday to support us.

"The EY children were thrilled to see the improvements and are already planning what to plant when the spring comes."

The Hartford Explorer Scout Unit is a mixed gender group for 14 to 18-year-olds. Leader Patch Hall said: "Local and worldwide community is a key part of Scouting and we were delighted to be able to help.

"We try to include at least one community impact activity in each term and this is often chosen by the Explorer Council.

"If anyone needs help with a community project in the new year, please get in touch via email."
