A PROTESTER who scaled Cheshire East Council's headquarters in Sandbach spent a chilly night camped on the roof of its reception porch.
Despite temperatures in the town falling to just two degrees Celsius at 6am this morning, police have not yet been able to tempt him down.
The man, believed to be from Congleton, used a long ladder – which remains in situ – to climb onto the Westfields building reception roof at around 7am yesterday morning (October 25).
The protester then taped two large poster to the front of the building, suggesting he believes himself a victim of modern-day slavery.
It also suggests he bears a grudge against a named individual, Cheshire East Council, and a firm of solicitors.
Two police cars were still at the scene at 11am today, Thursday, and a cordon remains in place.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Shortly after 7am on Wednesday, October 25, police were made aware of a man on the roof of a building in Middlewich Road, Sandbach.
“A cordon has been erected around the front of the building as a safety precaution.
“The building is still fully accessible.”
A spokesman for Cheshire East Council said: “We can confirm police remain in attendance at the council’s Westfields building in Middlewich Road, Sandbach, due to a protester occupying the roof of the reception.”
