A WINSFORD man has avoided jail despite breaching a restraining order and attacking woman.
In October last year, Jamie Reid, of Stephenson Walk, was banned from contacting or visiting his victim's home after assaulting her on September 13.
But the 23-year-old attended her home address in Winsford again on Tuesday, October 3, this year and attacked her again, landing him back in court.
Reid appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court on October 5 when he pleaded guilty to assault by beating and harassment by breaching a restraining order.
Taking his guilty pleas into account, magistrates handed him a four-month jail sentence but suspended the term for two years.
The court heard the offences were so serious, only a custodial sentence could be justified and imprisonment was considered due to the defendant's 'flagrant disregard for court orders' and 'his previous offending against the same victim'.
But it was also heard the sentence was suspended due to Reid's 'likely prospect of rehabilitation' by addressing his offending behaviour and alcohol usage with the Probation Service.
Magistrates also ordered Reid to abstain from alcohol for 120 days and to complete up to a maximum of 35 days' rehabilitation activity.
The bench also extended the restraining order to October 2026, which prohibits him from contacting his victim or entering a specified Winsford street.
He must also pay £120 in court costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
