A BURGLAR who broke into a garage through the roof has been caught after carelessly leaving his DNA at the scene.

Mark Brennan broke into Four Lanes Garage on Marston Lane through the roof on Wednesday, April 12.

The 39-year-old stole £90 worth of cigarettes, but left enough DNA at the scene for Cheshire Police scientists to identify him.

He was arrested at his home on Broadoak Road, St Helens, on Sunday October 1.

At a hearing at Chester Magistrates Court on Monday, October 2, Brennan pleaded guilty to burglary.

He was released on conditional bail, and is set to appear at Chester Crown Court for sentencing on Monday, October 30.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Brennen broke into the building via the roof and once inside, conducted an untidy search and stole approximately £90 worth of cigarettes.

“He was identified as the suspect after officers found traces of his DNA at the scene.

“He was subsequently arrested after officers conducted a warrant at his address.

“During questioning Brennan refused to answer any questions, but he subsequently pleaded guilty on his first appearance in court.”
