NORTHWICH’S rightful place at the centre of the region’s chemical industry comes into focus this month.
Marking 150 years since the founding of Brunner, Mond & Company in the town, Cheshire West and Chester Council's (CWAC) libraries and museums service have put together a weekend-long deep-dive into the town’s chemical industry heritage.
The celebration will include a lecture from an eminent chemist; a walking tour of the town with a noted local historian; a rare film screening; and free entry to the Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse for its local history fair.
Later in the week, six local primary schools will be visiting the Brunner Mond Gallery at the museum where they'll learn about the close relationship between the chemical industry and Northwich’s cultural heritage.
CWAC leader, Cllr Louise Gittins, said: “I’m delighted the council’s libraries, museums, and Northwich Town Council are working with other organisations to mark this significant anniversary.
"Free admission to Weaver Hall Museum on Saturday, October 21, will enable residents, their friends, and families to see for themselves the enormous contribution that Brunner and Mond have made to Northwich, and their enduring legacy.”
Northwich Town Council is supporting CWAC in organising the Brunner Mond Anniversary weekend.
Northwich town mayor, Cllr Jane Thomas, said: “I am especially pleased we’ll be visiting schools and conducting workshops for local children to educate them about the town we call home."
