STORM Agnes is set to hit the county.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, with residents of Cheshire told to expect strong winds causing power cuts, travel disruption and possibly danger to life.

The storm is expected to arrive this afternoon and will continue until early Thursday.

As such, National Highways has shared advice for anyone heading out onto the roads, in particular those travelling in lorries, caravans or by motorbike.

Steve Basterfield, National Network Manager at National Highways, said: “With the stormy weather being forecast, it is important to plan ahead for your journey, and if weather conditions become challenging, adjust your driving behaviour and take extra care.

“We have a section of our website dedicated to travelling amid storms, high winds and gales, and considerations for different types of vehicle, as part of our guide to travelling in severe weather. It’s also a good idea for people to check their vehicles, such as tyres, coolant and oil levels, before heading out to reduce the risk of breakdowns.”

National Highways has advised motorists to slow down, keep to main roads, avoid using exposed sections of road, keep both hands on the wheel, look out gaps in trees or buildings where there could be side winds.

It is expected to start raining in Northwich at about 11am on Wednesday (September 27).

There will also be gusts of up to 41mph in the area.

The Met Office has warned that Storm Agnes could cause injuries and a danger to life due to flying debris,.

It is also possible the storm could damage buildings, cause power cuts, and impact rail, air and ferry services.
