MANCHESTER Airport experienced one of its busiest summers ever.
Over three million passengers passed through the gates in August, an increase of 13 per cent on the previous year.
The most popular destinations have now been revealed, with locations in Turkey and Spain dominating the top ten.
Airport managing director Chris Woodroofe said: “We are really proud to serve the people of the North, from Leeds to Liverpool and Salford to Sheffield – and I think now we can look back at the summer and say with confidence that we’ve done a good job.
“We’ve delivered one of the best summers ever for our passengers with more people than ever before getting through security in under 15 minutes despite huge numbers coming through on their holidays.
“That’s thanks to a lot of hard work from people all over the airport – including our own staff and our colleagues from third parties like airlines, ground handling agents, retail colleagues and many more.”
Next summer could see some changes to the top ten, with new destinations such as Las Vegas and Egypt being added to the airport’s offering, courtesy of Virgin Atlantic and EgyptAir respectively.
