STUDENTS in Winsford are celebrating after receiving their GCSE results.

Pupils in year 11 at Winsford Academy joined hundreds of thousands across the country in collecting their grades on Thursday (August 24).

This year, efforts have been made in England to return grading to pre-pandemic levels.

Nationally, more than a fifth of UK GCSE entries were awarded the top grades – at least a 7 (A grade or above) – this year, down by 4.3 percentage points on 2022 when 26.3 per cent of entries achieved the top grades.

However, this remains higher than the equivalent figure for 2019 – before the pandemic – of 20.8 per cent.

Winsford Academy assistant principal Sharon Keegan was delighted with her cohort's results.

She said: "Winsford Academy had an exciting morning celebrating GSCE results with students, parents and staff.

"These pupils have been a fabulous, hardworking year group and we are so proud of the results they have achieved.

"We look forward to hearing about their next steps and wish them all the very best in their future endeavours."

Two of the students enjoying success included Ruth Hamill-Stuart, who gained two grade 9s, three grade 8s, three grade 7s and a grade 6, and Ruby Sharkey, who gained six grade 8s and three grade 7s.
